Curious Histories @ St. John's
The Curious Histories lecture series showcases the half-forgotten, unconventional and overlooked stories of the past. It runs at a variety of venues across Brighton and Hove, principally St John's Church. The programme also incorporates online talks.
Forthcoming events:
Thursday 4th July, East Street Tap, doors open at 7pm
That's Entertainment!
The turbulent history of Lewes' pub life + Into the Groove (Mat Homewood & Jonathan Scott)
Brighton's super-friendly East Street Tap is a new venue for us, but it looks great. Suitably offbeat local and technological history will be on the bill. Jonathan Scott examines the peculiar story of sound recordings from tin foil experimentation to the rise-and-fall-and-rise of vinyl records, whilst human entertainment in a rawer from can be found in Mat Homewood's bibulous tales from Lewes' Edwardian pub life.

Wednesday 11th September, online, 6.30 p.m.
An Autonomous Community in East London: The Sephardim and their Welfare (Eli Erginsoy)
We're delighted to present a previously untold historical tale of East London's Portuguese Jewish community. Using original archive material, Ali Erginsoy illuminates the inner workings of a diaspora community as it struggled to maintain its independence in the face of internal and external pressure.

Thursday 10th October, St. John's, Hove
Curious Histories @ The Ageing Well Festival
A suitably unorthodox double bill!
