The 1st Sunday after Trinity

Having finished the Easter cycle we now begin what are called the Sundays after Trinity, which run through the summer and autumn until Advent. Naming them “Sundays after Trinity” shows that the mystery of the Holy Trinity revealed at Easter is present throughout the year.

As with the leitmotif in an opera, if we keep our ears open, we will hear the trinitarian note sounding everywhere. In the same way, very Sunday is a ‘little Easter’ and a ‘little Pentecost’. The Christian faith is all about God the Father reaching out to us in Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

Collect

O God,

the strength of all those who put their trust in you,

mercifully accept our prayers

and, because through the weakness of our mortal nature

we can do no good thing without you,

grant us the help of your grace,

that in the keeping of your commandments

we may please you both in will and deed;

through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,

who is alive and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever. Amen
